This is a fire room, indicated by the vaulted ceiling. This was
a decorator showhouse that I did, I also gave a seminar on feng
shui during the showhouse.
The room was located in the relationship area of the bagua. Thats
why I chose to paint it the color that I did. Yin and Yang are brought
out in this room by the rounded window & the pointed ceiling line.
Hard & soft are represented.
The elements represented here are:
- Fire: The color of the walls, and the lighting, and
the shape of the ceiling line.
- Earth: The yellow tone in the sofa fabric, the square
prints on the walls.
- Metal: The rounded window, and the shape of the lamp
shade, and the cream in the sofa fabric
- Water: The deep dark color on the hand painted wall
unit.
- Wood: Represented in the wood floors, the wood tables,
the green & blue tones in the fabrics, and all the greenery.
You may also see the beams on the ceiling in the photos, they
should have been either painted, sheetrocked, or draped with
fabric, but for no other reason but, lack of time, they were
not.

It did not take much to transform this kitchen. First of all, you
have to look at safety & comfort. Without the island in the center,
it would not be comfortable to prepare meals in this kitchen. The
refrigerator is too far from the counters. It also could be a safety
issue, carrying something heavy from the refrigerator, without the
island, going all the way to the counter could be a hazard. We installed
the island, as you can see, it is much more pleasing to the eye,
so here safety, comfort & beauty is covered. Yin and Yang are represented
with darkness & light, curvey & angular, and soft & hard.
The elements represented here are:
- Fire: The red tone in the fabric
- Earth: The square shapes in the fabric, and the shape
of the tiles on the floor.
- Metal: The composition of the chairs and stools, and
the shape of the chandelier shades, and the table.
- Water: The deep color on the chairs and the stools
- Wood: The greenery over the door & the wreath on the
window, and the greenery under the table, the rectangular shape
of the back of the stool.

You can see in these before and after photos, the dramatic difference.
The before photo shows the sofa back & the large TV cabinet. The
after photo is much more inviting. The sofa was eliminated. It was
much too large for the room, besides it blocked the entire entrance
into the room. There was no color in the room, it was very blah.
The elements represented in the room after it was completer are:
- Fire: The color of the swivel chair, the background
of the thro pillows, and the candle sticks.
- Earth: The shape of the cushions (square)
- Metal: The color of the walls & floor (beige), and the material of the custom designed sofa table & small end table.
- Water: The color of the both tables (black)
- Wood: The legs on the small benches under the sofa table & the wall unit that houses the TV, (you are unable to see it in this photo)

In this before and after photo, it is plain to see that just by
adding the color on the walls, and draping fabric on the window
above the bed, a much more yin place was created for restful sleep.
Before the white was very yang, harsh, the window was very angular,
again harsh. The red tone made the room very yin, and the draping
of the fabric, created soft curves as opposed to straight angular
lines. A plant was also added.
The elements represented here are:
- Fire: the red on the walls & in the fabric.
- Earth: Although it's difficult to see in the photo,
there was a goldish color in the flowers in the fabric.
- Metal: The white shade on the window
- Water: the draping of the fabric created an asymetrical
look representing water.
- Wood: Represented in the wood furniture, the plant,
and the green in the fabric.

The following are pictures of completed projects
